Dear Spacer,
Hi there! Thanks for offering to write me a story or make me art for one of my favorite fandoms--IN SPACE! If you are an artist who got matched to me--a) oh, yay, I’m getting art in an exchange! And however small an amount of fic these fandoms get, they have even less fanart (well, except for the Uplift series, it’s hard to do less than zero), so the possibility of there being more is exciting too. But b) I have a lot more experience in writing fic prompts than art prompts? So, sorry about that, and I hope that you find what you need here.
I like all kinds of fic, from gen to shippy (I am a dedicated multishipper and will happily read any rating, any number/gender of participants), from warm-and-fluffy to dark (kill my favorite characters, please!), from plotty and action-packed to intense conversations on the Formless Plane of Dialogue (I don't tend to like extremely introspective stories where there's no interaction, however). I'm not terribly fond of AUs of the coffee-shop/university/whatever variety, but I like canon-divergence AUs and fusions and crossovers when they're clever.
As far as art goes, as you can see all the fandoms I’m requesting are books, and not books that have had movies made out of them or get a ton of art drawn, so really I’d be happy to see any visual representation of these characters. I’ll try to put in some scenes/moments from the books that I’d like to see illustrated, just in case you need more ideas, but feel free to go with your own thing or take your inspiration from the more fic-oriented prompts, or whatever. If you’re going to draw shippy art, please keep it rated mature or lower? I’m afraid I find a lot of explicit fanart embarrassing and/or unintentionally funny.
Alliance-Union - C. J. Cherryh
Elene Quen, Joshua Talley, Damon Konstantin
Damon Konstantin is the paladin-bureaucrat, the guy who knows it’s no good fighting for your civilization if it means everything that makes you civilized gets thrown out the window. Elene Quen is the woman who single-handedly created the Merchanter’s Alliance while waddling around pregnant. Josh Talley is the destroyer of worlds who finds the family that Damon and Elene have made for him to be the thing he can cling to when everything he knows turns out to be a lie. Hell yes, I ship it.
Write me a sexy or sweetly domestic scene when Josh visits Pell Station? Write me kidfic if that’s your thing; I’d especially like to see the place that Josh has in the life of Damon and Elene’s child or children.
If don’t want to include Josh in Damon and Elene’s sexual relationship, that’s cool too, as long as they’re still the home he comes back to no matter where he goes or who else he sleeps over with. (I am fine with Josh/Signy in the background, as long as it’s not the focus.)
Things I’d like to see illustrated: Cuddles! Kids? Damon and Elene watching the Norway docking, and/or Josh watching Pell station as it approaches?

Justin Warrick, Grant ALX-972
I don’t have to explain why I love Justin and Grant, right? Everyone loves Justin and Grant. But here goes anyway: So you know right after Ari I dies and Justin is feeling responsible for everything and like an awful person, and he’s like, if people knew the truth about me, everyone would hate me, Grant would--well, no, Grant wouldn’t hate me, it’s not in his programming.
Which is really fucked up--but it also means that Justin is able to believe that someone loves him and will love him no matter what at a time when he desperately needs to believe that. So that’s Justin and Grant--they love each other, they make each other stronger, they need each other to survive in the completely fucked-up environment they live in--and yet that completely fucked-up environment is an inherent and inextricable part of themselves and their relationship.
So, um . . . write me a story about that thing? Write about Justin and Grant as kids or adolescents, before everything went wrong; write about when they first started to work for Ari I and things were starting to go wrong but they didn’t realize it yet. Write something where they have sex, and how they negotiate that for the first time or on subsequent times, because what with everything it can’t be simple or straightforward, and yet it is a thing that they do. Or else, write me something ridiculously tropey--Grant and Justin find themselves in charge of a baby! Grant and Justin huddle for warmth!--and show me how that plays out in the uniquely twisted environment that is Reseune.
Things I’d like illustrated: Teenage Justin and Grant running away? Middle-aged Grant and Justin breaking in their new apartment? Grant visiting Justin in detention while he’s hopped up on interrogation drugs? Anything shippy at all?
Darkangel Trilogy - Meredith Ann Pierce
Any Character
There are all sorts of hints about interesting stories happening when Aeriel’s not around--I’d like to see one of those. (Which is not to say that you can’t include Aeriel; I like her a lot.) What adventures did Sabr and Irrylath have during A Gathering of Gargoyles? What happened to Roshka and Erin after Aeriel left them? How did Erin’s first encounter with the people she was born to go?
Alternatively, if you’d like to write future fic, I’d love to see how an OT4 with Aeriel, Erin, Roshka and Irrylath would work. I’d also be interested in reading about Irrylath and Sabr (and possibly the Avarclon and Talb?) rebuilding Avaric--although I’d prefer gen there, since I’m not completely sold on Irrylath/Sabr.
Scenes I’d love to see illustrated: Aeriel learning how to spin love, or doing magical open-heart surgery; Roshka holding Erin back from following Aeriel; Irrylath surrendering himself to the Avarclon
Uplift Series - David Brin
yee, Rety, Gillian Baskin
So you know how some people consider Kirk or Picard or whoever their captain? Gillian Baskin is my captain. Write me a story where she’s being awesome and captainly please? Something from Streaker’s missing years--either one of the dramatic episodes hinted at in the books, like the escape from the Institutes at Oakka, or else a smaller, more downtime sort of story (in three years, there must have been some, even on Streaker.) Or else, does Gillian manage to semi-retire after the series the way she intends? Show me her working on treatments and therapies with Emerson, finding a publisher for Alvin’s journal, having drinks and swapping stories with Helene Alvarez and Jacob Demwa, and acting as an honorary grandmother to dozens of baby dolphins.
Alternatively! I . . . actually ship Rety/yee? There’s nothing romantic about their marriage, and nothing sexual about it (at least in the books, but see below) and yet--although they arrived at the arrangement in a spur-of-the-moment fashion--they seem to take their life partnership pretty seriously. You just have to read yee talking Rety through her claustrophobia, or teasing her about finding a female of his own species, to know how much he adores her, and--for someone who is so self-centered, driven, and justifiably suspicious of everyone else--it’s touching to see her care for him in return. (He’s like the weak spot in her armor! I have a kink, okay.) Anything with them, from quiet domestic moments to wacky hijinks in Jijo’s Bamboo Space Program, would be lovely. Or, if you’re up for it, I’d be interested in seeing some xeno? I mean, yee is just about the right size for Rety to use as a sex toy, and I think she’d be a lot more comfortable figuring out her sexual responses with him than with someone of her own species. On his side, you have to wonder whether being carried around in a pouch does something for him sexually? Since that is central to how his species reproduces and all. If you have ideas about how that works between them, I am all ears, is what I’m saying.
Moments I’d like to see illustrated: Gillian doing weightless yoga, arguing with the Niss machine (I kind of ship Gillian/Niss) or directing a battle from Streaker’s bridge (I’d love to see Streaker’s weird bridge illustrated). That thing that yee and Rety do, where she strokes his neck and he wraps it around her arm. Rety and yee doing a victory dance after stealing a starship.
Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold
Terrence Cee, Ethan Urquhart
Ethan is such a sweetheart and Terrence is a badass broken bird and they are so adorable together--why isn’t there a ton of fic about them already, again? I’d love to read about their Betan adventures before they get back to Athos, or about Terrence adjusting to life on Athos. If you’d like to go the farther-future route, write me a story about what happens when Ethan and Terrence are grandfathers and their crimes come to light when the first telepaths start cropping up, or about Galactic telepaths coming to seek asylum on Athos? Or if you want to write something sexier, I’d love something about their first time, or telepathic sex, or hurt/comfort either of the angsty, dealing-with-Terrence’s-traumatic-past variety, or the fluffy, Terrence-takes-care-of-Ethan-when-he-has-a-cold variety.
Things I’d like to see illustrated: Ethan pictured himself taking Cee sailing on the South Province coast, checking the underwater fences of his father’s fish farm--did Cetaganda have oceans?--salt sweat and salt water, hot hard work and cold beer and blue shrimp afterwards. Yes, draw me this please. Or anything sweet and shippy with them. The kids can come too, especially if any of them bear a distinct resemblance to the magnificent Admiral Quinn.
