Dear Yuletide Writer 2016

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Hello! Thank you so much for offering to write me a story in one of my favorite rare fandoms! I really will be delighted to get anything about them, so--aside from the Do Not Wants--please feel free to ignore the rest of this letter. It’s really only here to give you inspiration if you don’t know what to write, but if you have your own ideas already, please go wild with them. I am always interested in seeing new and interesting takes on my favorites, especially ones I would never have thought of myself.

One more general thing I want to add--I’m not requesting any five-minute fandoms like individual songs or picture books this year, but two of the canons I’m requesting are available in their entirety (or close enough to entirety) online, for free, legally, so if you haven’t yet I really do encourage you to check out Stand Still Stay Silent and SkyWorld, they’re great.

Anyway, If for some reason you want to stalk me, I am dead easy to stalk; I'm minutia_r (or occasionally minutia-r) all over the internet: LJ/DW, AO3, tumblr, deviantart, ff.net, 8tracks, and probably one or two other places I don't recall off-hand. (Minutiar on twitter is not me, though, oddly enough.)

Thank you once again, mystery writer! I am really looking forward to reading what you write for me, and I hope you get an awesome story too!

RARELYWRITTEN! and Space Swap, too.

MY RARELYWRITTEN GIFT IS BETTER THAN YOURS SO THERE

I’ve got a few recurring requests that I make in various fic exchanges, and sometimes I say to myself, Minutia, you should come up with new requests because it’s become clear that nobody is going to write those old ones. WELL, NOT TODAY, BITCHES! Somebody wrote me Elene/Damon/Josh from Downbelow Station and it is fucking glorious. It is everything I wanted from an Elene/Damon/Josh fic. (Well, except for actual threeway sex. That would be nice too. But if I had to choose I would pick what I got.)

Cherryh fandom has the best writers, I swear, I have never read a Cherryh fic that was not at least OK, and a lot of them are really, really good. This is one of the really, really good ones.

Also, since rarelywritten has no anon period, I can already tell you what I wrote, which is a story of Drou Koudelka, Cordelia and Gregor, as well as tea parties, political violence, child rearing, and social engineering.

And also also, the reveals for Space Swap Two happened. The story I wrote was for Calvin and Hobbes, and featured Calvin and Susie going on a space adventure together. For certain values of space adventure, and also together.

And I think I haven't mentioned on this journal yet, I got an absolutely gorgeous watercolor painting of the magical heart surgery scene from the Darkangel Trilogy.

And now I am seriously not signing up for any more exchanges, bangs, fests, or anything of that ilk until I finish the assignments that I've got.

The Squee Never Stops: Breaking radio silence for a moment of squee

Oh my God, you guys, did you know there was a female-and-genderqueer-centric podfic fest?

Well, neither did I, but now I do, because nickelmountain podficced two of my stories for it!

They're the ones I wrote for cordailcount for the rarewomen exchange, and deal with Ariane Emory I (of CJ Cherryh's Cyteen, for all you who are missing out haven't read it yet)'s childhood and early adolescence.

You can listen to Loose Every Knot (which is about 3 minutes long, and safe for work) or The Things That Make Me Weak and Strange (which is about 16 minutes long, and . . . not so much.  Read the warnings for that one before you listen, although I will say it's not any worse than canon.)

Rarewomen!

So, the Rarewomen collection is open!

fawatson wrote me The Purpose of Life, which is a Vorkosigan Saga story where Lilly Durona Junior and Maree of Bharaputra's clone-creche find a sort of closure that I didn't think to ask for in my letter, but really should have. Also there are Mercenaries! With a glad cry!

Go read it.

ALSO, since Rarewomen doesn't have an anon period, I can already tell you what I wrote:

Loose Every Knot and The Things That Make Me Weak and Strange for cordialcount, a pair of Cyteen stories about young Ari Emory I and the origins of psychogenesis.

(They are theoretically part of a longer series. Theoretically. Also, heed the warnings on the second one.)

I also wrote American Poetry 1900-1950: The Drinking Game for DWEmma, a Lizzie Bennet Diaries story featuring Lydia, Mary, and pretty much what it says on the tin.

In space, no one can hear you squee

In between writing my Jukebox letter and doing a pinch hit for Rarewomen, I have not yet gotten around to telling you guys, I got a lovely story for Space Swap!

I'm not sure if I've got any CJ Cherryh fans who read this journal but have not yet read this story, but in case I do, go read it! It's a Cyteen fic, it's got Justin/Grant first times, and if you have ever wanted to wrap a warm blanket around Justin Warrick or are just delighted to know that The Princess Bride is evidently comfort-watching in the Warrick household, you will enjoy this fic.

Dear Rarewomen Author 2014

Dear rarewomen author,

Hello and thank you
for offering to write a story about one or more of my beloved fictional ladies! You may have noticed that I take the “rare” part of rare women quite seriously--none of these characters have more than a handful of stories written about them, if that. What this means is that I can pretty much guarantee I’ll be thrilled with whatever you write. It’s not like I’m going to be able to compare it unfavorably to the dozens of other stories about these characters, right?

But, seeing as how “anything” is a terrible prompt, have some optional details. Also, have a brief description of the canons I’m requesting, in case you don’t want to write for the fandom we matched on, or I’ve made it to the pinch hit list, or you’re idly curious, or you want to write me a treat. Or just on the off-chance that anyone reading this letter wants to consume some excellent (but obscure) media.

Attack of the 50-ft woman )

(If you are reading this because you read my journal/tumblr, and were not previously aware of rarewomen--you guys, do this fic exchange with me! It has all these excellent ladies and more available to write and request! I have gotten truly awesome stories for it in the past! You can find the details here. And if you have not done a yuletide-style fic exchange before, don’t be fooled--writing a letter to your assigned author is completely optional, and writing a letter more than twice the required length of the story is . . . well, let’s go with optional again. Optional is a polite word.)

Dear Spacer

ETA: This is the final, updated version of the letter. Sorry for the inconvenience (assuming that you checked this letter before I got this version up.)

Dear Spacer,

Hi there! Thanks for offering to write me a story or make me art for one of my favorite fandoms--IN SPACE! If you are an artist who got matched to me--a) oh, yay, I’m getting art in an exchange! And however small an amount of fic these fandoms get, they have even less fanart (well, except for the Uplift series, it’s hard to do less than zero), so the possibility of there being more is exciting too. But b) I have a lot more experience in writing fic prompts than art prompts? So, sorry about that, and I hope that you find what you need here.

Onwards and upwards! )

What I wrote for purimgifts

These were all for [livejournal.com profile] cordialcount:

A Great Deal of Courage, and Anger: Vorkosigan Saga, Donna Vorrutyer/Olivia Koudelka. I couldn't keep this under a thousand words, so I split it into two parts, but now that reveals have happened it's posted as one story.

Escobar, the First Year: Vorkosigan Saga, a cycle of poems about the Durona Group's first year on Escobar. Also includes pretty pictures of flowers.

On One Foot: Cyteen; Yanni, Justin and Grant. [livejournal.com profile] cordialcount requested Yanni being Jewish in space; this . . . sort of qualifies?

The squee doesn't stop for Purim

For those of you who don't know, [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts is an exchange of short fic (300-1000 words, although if you post installments of the same story over the three days of posting you can get up to 3000 words) and graphics. It's focused on female characters, Jewish characters, and characters persecuted by evil viziers; it's fast-paced, often silly, and slightly manic; and now it's over and reveals have happened. So I can tell you that [livejournal.com profile] opalmatrix made me the following gifts:

A Heart at My Command: Amy/Quentin from Cyteen. Solidly physical and atmospheric and lovely.

She's Not There: Flower-in-the-Night/Abdullah from Castle in the Air. Magic spells! Married love! Problem-solving-skills! Flowery dialogue! (Some people apparently find Abdullah's speech patterns annoying but I love them okay.)

To the Top: Anthea Tesdinic from Conrad's Fate. OMG she actually drew me Anthea's fashion designs (with accompanying fashion-reporter commentary); I requested that but never expected it! (I want the blue one.)

I will post about my stories and some other stuff I liked later.

My yuletide present is better than your yuletide present

Because my yuletide present is the best:

Dream of Drowning, and Wake in Snow

You guys! It’s Eveshka/Pyetr/Sasha (really mostly gen but not entirely, as the author accurately put it)! And I know you haven’t heard of them, but a) that’s why it’s so awesome that someone wrote them for me for yuletide and b) you really should, because they’re from CJ Cherryh’s Russian Stories (otherwise known as Rusalka and its sequels) and they are great.

And damn if my anonymous gift-giver doesn’t have a near-perfect Cherryh voice, too.

So much love.

Yuletide reveals

Right, those happened. So now it can be told that I wrote the following story, which I am posting here in a fit of completionism:

Rounded With a Sleep

Fandom: CJ Cherryh, Alliance/Union

Pairing: Jordan/Ari II

Rating: R

Word count: 1,500

Summary: "Little bitch," Jordan growled. "It's never been about Justin, has it? You've wanted to get at me for years; you, your predecessor, whatever. Well, here I am, for one more night at least. What do you say we cut out the middleman?"

Thanks to: [livejournal.com profile] ambyr. All remaining extraneous commas are mine.

This one's for: [livejournal.com profile] shantih

Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Hi there! Thank you for offering to write in one of my beloved fandoms!

Here are some things I like: Families, established relationships, magical adventures, smart people being smart and competent people being competent. Here are some things I'd rather not get: Stereotypical gender roles in relationships, porn without plot (but see Russian Stories), dark fic (but see Russian stories), crossovers, mundane AUs.

Fandoms and etcetera )

And I think that's it! Thank you once again, dear yuletide writer; you are in all probability the best, and I hope you get what you want for yuletide too!

Wizards' Wishing

So, I just read CJ Cherryh's Rusalka. And wrote fic for it, apparently? Maybe somewhere on the internet, there's someone who wants to read this?

Wizard's Wishing

Fandom: CJ Cherryh, Rusalka

Pairings: Pyetr/Eveshka, Pyetr/Sasha

Rating: PG-13

Word count: 300

Summary: A weed, Eveshka's father called her—and in Pyetr's arms she was, untamed and self-willed.

A wizard's wish is a dangerous thing.

ETA: Apparently there are two more books in this series. On the one hand, hooray! On the other hand, oops?
