House of Many Ways is the last installment in the Howl series; I haven't read it yet either. Dark Lord of Derkholm also has a sequel, Year of the Griffin, about one of the griffins' adventures at magical university; I like both books but they're not among my favorites.
My favorites, as you may be able to tell from the copious amounts of fic I've posted, are the Chrestomanci series, and if you're thinking of giving DWJ another chance I really really urge you to read Witch Week, which I fell in love with when I was twelve and upon rereading is still a perfect little book. It's not the first either in publication or internal chronological order, but it stands alone, although it has a few what I'd consider minor spoilers for Charmed Life, if you care about that sort of thing.
