Dear Fic Corner Scribbler,

Hello, there lovely person who is going to write a story in one of the fandoms I requested! Thank you so much, you are clearly awesome.

Please do not hesitate to ruin my childhood! (Actually I read most of these books for the first time as an adult; I just like kids’ books, okay.) I am also a dedicated multishipper, so if you want to include a pairing that I haven’t specifically asked for, it’ll be fine. I am not so keen on underage, though, so for the canons that have child characters I’d prefer if you aged them up if they are going to be doing anything more than holding hands and chaste kissing?

(Or you could write gen. I am totally cool with gen.)

I love crossovers, fusions, and canon-divergence AUs, but I don’t like mundane AUs of fantastical canons.

Okay, on to the prompts!

Hello there, yuletide writer! It’s the most wonderful time of the year again--the time when some poor sap has to write me a story for a canon that barely anyone else has ever heard of, let alone written fanfic for. And this year, you’re the poor sap!

Seriously though, if I were you I wouldn’t worry if you have a completely different idea for a story than the optional details below, or if you don’t happen to be the world’s greatest writer, or if you get hit by the Real Life bus and end up frantically banging on the keyboard two hours before the deadline--if by Christmas I have a story in one of these fandoms, I can pretty much guarantee I’ll be thrilled. It’s not like I’m going to be able to compare it unfavorably to the dozens of other stories in these fandoms, right?

I was born a ramblin' man )

Thank you, happy writing, and I hope you get something you love for yuletide too!

Breaking radio silence to say I now have a copy of The Dunderheads Behind Bars. It's not as good as the first one, which was more or less what I was expecting, but it was still charming as fuck, plus also it had:

1) A shippy moment with my OTP (okay, it was a couple of lines of completely non-sexual banter, but come on, my OTP is like eight.)

2) Confirmation that Hollywood is in fact in online fandom.

So it's a good day.

I know it’s okay to be fannish about YA books, and middle-grades books … picture books are cool, too, right? Right.

Anyway, The Dunderheads by Paul Fleischman and David Roberts. I can’t remember the last time I was so utterly charmed by a book. The basic plot is that a mean teacher confiscates a kid’s birthday present for his mother, and he and his classmates team up to get it back. The execution is . . . it’s like Charles Addams and Roald Dahl got together to write Ocean’s Eleven for preschoolers.

I kind of ship Einstein/Hollywood? In a third-graders-in-love way, not a sexy way.

Apparently a sequel has recently come out, I should try to get my hands on that.
