Somehow I neglected to read Conrad's Fate (a book in the Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones) until this morning.
This has now been rectified.
I love DWJ, and I like most of her canon couples to a greater or lesser degree, but I've never really been bitten by the fanfiction bug for any of her works, nor have I really shipped any characters of hers, canon pairings or otherwise. (Vierran/Mordion from Hexwood comes closest. The old hurt/comfort, I guess.)
But now . . . I want some Christopher/Conrad. And by now, I mean NOW.
Watch this space, I suppose.
