Okay, so I went and wrote a skipping rhyme for Water Tribe girls in Republic City to use when they’re playing jump the water whip. I actually have an idea for a story I’m going to use this in, but I’m not sure if/when I’ll write it, so for now here’s this:
Thunderclap from a clear blue sky
Asked the moon who’ll be my guy
Fire and flood, death and birth
I’ll marry a man who can bend the earth
All Earth’s creatures, use your eyes
What if my earthbender dies?
Princess Yue, chieftain’s daughter
I’ll marry a man who can bend the water
Under heaven, bow together
He up and left when we got hot weather
Tui and La, who can jump higher?
I’ll marry a man who can bend the fire
Spirit Oasis, leap and dance
He went and burned my favorite pants
Hotman, you had best run far
I’m gonna marry the Avatar
The first lines of the verses are based on the following enlightenment poem by Wumen Hui-k'ai, which I got off of Wikipedia:
A thunderclap under the clear blue sky
All beings on earth open their eyes;
Everything under heaven bows together;
Mount Sumeru leaps up and dances.

I’ll marry a man who can bend the earth
