Multifandom Poetry Fest 2019
Mar. 27th, 2019 12:12 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)

Welcome to the third annual Multifandom Poetry Fest, a prompt fest for poetry for all fandoms! Have fun, and if you want to promote it on your journal/tumblr/whatever, you can just copy the code in this box:
Rules
1) Leave a prompt in the form of fandom, characters or relationships, prompt. If you don’t want to specify the fandom or characters, you can say "any." One prompt per comment. Leave as many prompts as you like.
2) Reply to other people’s prompts with poems. The poems can be any length or form, or no form. Quality isn’t important--the point is to have fun, not to produce deathless works of art. (Any deathless works of art produced are just a bonus.)
FAQ
Q: I want to write a sonnet/haiku/villanelle/limerick, but I’m not sure how it goes.
A: You can find a good list of poetic forms and their structures here.
Q: Can I write fills without leaving any prompts, or leave prompts without writing any fills?
A: Go ahead!
Q: I want to fill a prompt, but someone else has already filled it.
A: That’s okay, prompts can be filled multiple times.
Q: I want to write explicit erotica, or a poem with potentially disturbing themes. Is that okay, and what sort of content do I need to warn for?
A: Sure, that's fine. Warnings are up to you, and choosing not to warn is okay too.
Q: Can I prompt/write original works?
A: Original works are a fandom! If you want, you can specify genre and character types while prompting, like so: original fantasy setting, female elf/female orc, next time I won't miss.
Q: I want to participate, but I don't have a dreamwidth account/I'm shy.
A: That's okay--anonymous posting is on.
Q: How long is the fest going to be running for?
A: Currently, I don't have any plans to close this post to comments--I figure we'll keep going until everyone gets bored and wanders off. I reserve the right to change my mind, though.
Q: Is there a collection on AO3 where I can post my poems?
A: Right here.
Q: I want to participate, but I suck at writing poetry.
A: Aww, you’re probably not as bad as you think. But even if you are, it really doesn’t matter--like I said, the main point is to have fun.

Date: 2019-03-27 02:27 pm (UTC)and wandered off, too quiet on cat feet,
Abandoned me alone to my repose
neither in waking nor in dreams to meet,
And by the time I rose to read your words
your pen strokes whimsy wobbling chicken-scratch,
You'd taken flight along the path of birds
gone in the night, some foolish plan to hatch,
What shall I do? I can't begin to see
the meaning of your final parting note,
This 'Swedish' might as well 'be Greek to me'
(whatever that means - some old anecdote),
Oh Lalli, please, next time I wish you would,
leave me some better clue than 'Butter Good'.

Date: 2019-03-28 12:41 am (UTC)Now hours repeat, and I miss the sky.
Death in the Yeerk pool, an underground hell.
Rebirth seeking a home of bliss: the sky.
Shot down by a Blade ship above the clouds.
Falling through this endless abyss, the sky.
They capture me, infest me; I awake.
They conquer the Earth, but dismiss the sky.
A Taxxon's tongue lashes out, pulls me down.
I hear, behind its mocking hiss, the sky.
Jake tells me of other realities.
Do you know, sympathizer Niss, the sky?
I'll try to bias our odds tomorrow.
Nothing survives today but this, the sky.

Date: 2019-03-31 07:03 pm (UTC)Listen, you who would be queen:
What do you know of how to rule?
I’m telling you this as a friend.
You should be careful who you trust,
And don’t put too much faith in gods.
Gods raise you up, but then betray
Listen: if your face betrays
Your feelings, they won’t see a queen.
To your people you must be a god.
Show them a harsh and iron rule--
Let them fear, before they trust.
A monarch can be no one’s friend.
Listen: can you kill your friend?
And with unflinching heart betray
The love that led to foolish trust?
Such is the fate of every queen,
And such has always been my rule
Even in the face of gods.
Listen: though it seems the gods
Smile on you, and that you’ve friends
Throughout your realm, you only rule
When you seem strong. They’ll soon betray
A foolish, soft, and smiling queen.
The sword’s the one thing you can trust.
Listen: let your barons trust
You just so far. Fear of the gods--
And of you, their goddess-queen--
Will always be your truest friend.
Kill a few first, lest they betray--
The rest will yield to your rule.
Listen: As of now, your rule
Is too new for you to trust
Anyone not to betray
And claim it as the will of gods.
You’ll stand alone, without your friends.
Only thus can you be queen.
Helen:
Listen: your words betray a narrow rule
For an embattled queen. But I trust
The gods, and hope--someday--to be your friend.

Yeah, I saw you looking
No need to be so embarrassed
(Although
I gotta say
You are real cute when you blush.)
I mean
No harm in looking
It is pretty impressive
If I say so myself.
Of course
It's not the size of the sword
It's how you wield it
If you know what I mean.
Wanna see?

through darkness to light
i.
it’s midnight, and you’re dreaming of lost love
again, bird-wings and silver moonlight.
half-fleeting memories of her warmth.
you bruise your knees crawling towards
hope, scrape your knuckles battling
the teeth-filled night. saltwater tastes
a lot like blood, and you wish she’d never
learned the taste of either.
ii.
you learn the paths through the dark, fighting
what lurks there with bullet or blade or
bare fists. shadows creep under your teeth
and down your throat, stealing your words
until you can only say her name. it’s all
you need, a shining thread through the
unending night. one step, then another.
you’re promising her she’ll be found.
you’ll cross every ocean and desert
for the light in her eyes.
iii.
you find her.
iv.
you find her, and your hands tangle in
her swan-gray hair and your voice swells
in your chest, a shout of joy, her name
and all the love you can thread through it.
you would offer your battle-hymn of a body
as ransom for her, but the clouds are opening,
the stars reaching down through the torn
shadows. your love, the sky says, it’s enough.
v.
it’s morning, and you wake with her
golden beside you, the sun a fire
around her smile. her mouth is a field
of flowers blooming against yours,
heat-dark soil and an ocean of
summer-color. it’s morning,
and you aren’t dreaming anymore;
you don’t have to.

Beyond the skies in darkness deep,
I gave to you my heart to keep.
O stars of Varda shining clear,
With starfire bright from her dear hand,
We set you high to light the land,
Leave still a place of midnight blue!
Where I may lie beside my dear,
Rest in the dark and sing to you.

We did--and showed them why flowers are called a riot.

Date: 2019-03-28 10:56 pm (UTC)Yusuke/Akira (Persona 5)
Date: 2019-04-27 04:31 am (UTC)When Yusuke sleeps, he dreams in various shades of red and blue
they paint his thoughts in bright, vivid shades, like acrylics
the colors never seem to meet, nor do they ever mix
into what he knows would be a beautiful hue.
When he sees gray eyes, it reaffirms what he already knew
they stare at him, dark and deep like onyx
for now, he doesn’t think about the pain that gaze inflicts
he just wants them to know he sees them, too.
When he wakes up, his skin is cold and clammy with sweat
food doesn’t taste right when it touches his tongue
and all he can feel now is that craving to be loved.
Even when awake, those dreams he can’t forget
in his art, he tries to express those eyes, but he’s so high-strung
he never sees those hands mere inches away, red and gloved.
—
Akira watches Yusuke paint, and it’s almost like he’s not there
he could stay here for hours, just staring at the passion in gray eyes.
sometimes, Yusuke steps back from his easel to gulp in air
Akira wonders what he’s thinking of as the paint dries.
When Yusuke finally notices him, he looks startled, eyes wide
Akira smiles at him, and Yusuke asks how long he’s been watching
“not long at all,” he says, without remorse at having lied
his chest swells as he looks at him, that painful aching.
Yusuke touches his shoulder, leading him away from his art
there’s something he doesn’t want Akira to see
and just knowing he’s hiding something hurts his heart
but if he knew the truth, it would fill him with such glee.
And so Yusuke — hiding the paintings of the man he loves — keeps his affection hidden,
and Akira just loves him more each day, letting his feelings deepen.
